Julio García Oliveras

Julio Alfredo García Oliveras (* 1931 in Havana ) is a former Cuban diplomat . From 1979 to 1984 he was the ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in the GDR .

Life

Julio Garcia Oliveras presented on 14 May 1979 the Council of State of the GDR , Erich Honecker , his credentials as Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in the GDR. He held the office for five years until October 1984. As a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba , in April 1981 he was part of the Cuban guest delegation that took part in the 10th SED Party Congress and was led by Juan Almeida . In December 1984 in Havana he was presented with the gold star of the GDR's friendship between nations by the GDR's ambassador in Cuba, Heinz Langer , which had been awarded to him by the Chairman of the GDR's Council of State.

García Oliveras later worked as President of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce. During a visit to the Leipzig Trade Fair on March 13, 1988, he presented Erich Honecker with his book entitled "El joven Erich" (The young Erich).
