Josiah Wells (born May 18, 1990 in Dunedin ) is a New Zealand freestyle skier . He starts in the freestyle disciplines.

Career

Wells made his debut in Apex in March 2006 in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup and finished tenth in the halfpipe competition. At the 2008 Winter X Games in Aspen , he won silver in slopestyle . Since the 2008/09 season he has also been participating in competitions on the AFP World Tour . He took in February 2009 at the Nippon Open in Inawashiro in big air his first victory. At the 2009 Freestyle Skiing World Championships in Inawashiro , he finished eighth on the halfpipe. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season he won the New Zealand Freeski Open in Cardrona on the halfpipe. In the further course of the season he won on the halfpipe at the Winter Dew Tour in Snowbasin and in slopestyle at the Austrian Freeski Open in Kaprun . At the Winter X Games 2010 in Aspen he won silver in the superpipe competition and at the Winter X Games Europe 2010 in Tignes he won bronze in slopestyle. He finished the season in fifth place in the AFP World Tour Slopestyle Ranking and first place in the AFP World Tour Halfpipe Ranking. At the 2011 Freestyle Skiing World Championships in Park City , he achieved 13th place in slopestyle and ninth place on the halfpipe. At the beginning of the 2011/12 season he won the bronze medal in Big Air at the New Zealand Winter Games in Cardrona and the silver medal on the halfpipe and in slopestyle. In the further course of the season he won in slopestyle at the New Zealand Freeski Open in Cardrona and at the Relentless Freeze Festival in London . At the Winter X Games 2012 in Aspen , he won bronze in Big Air. He finished the season in third place in the AFP World Tour overall standings. In March 2013 he won silver in slopestyle at the Winter X Games Europe in Tignes. In the same month he came in the Freestyle Skiing World Championships 2013 in Voss in the Slopestyle on the 58th place and in the halfpipe competition on the 19th place. In the 2013/14 season, which he finished in fourth place in the Slopestyle World Cup, he won his first World Cup victory in Slopestyle in Gstaad . In his first Olympic participation in Sochi in 2014 , he reached 11th place in slopestyle and fourth place in halfpipe competition. In the 2014/15 season he won in slopestyle at the European Freeski Open in Laax and took third place on the halfpipe and in slopestyle at the New Zealand Freeski Open in Cardrona . He finished the season in second place in the AFP World Tour overall standings. After finishing fourth in Slopestyle at the beginning of the following season at the Winter Games New Zealand and FIS World Cup in Cardrona , he finished second in Slopestyle at the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge . At the Winter X Games 2016 in Aspen , he won the gold medal in slopestyle. He also finished eighth in Big Air. At the end of February 2016, he came 11th in Big Air at the X-Games Oslo 2016. In the 2016/17 season he came in at the Winter X-Games 2017 and the X-Games Norway 2017 in Hafjell in ninth place in Slopestyle.
