Julius Gottfried Sussdorf

Julius Gottfried Sussdorf (born June 2, 1822 in Gotha , † July 13, 1890 in Dresden ) was a German pharmacist and chemist , professor of chemistry and physics at the Dresden Veterinary School and pharmacy auditor for the Dresden and Bautzen districts.

Life

Julius Gottfried Sussdorf studied in Halle and Leipzig and then worked with Otto Rudolph Abendroth (1811–1864) at the Pharmaceutical Institute in Dresden. After a short time as a lecturer at the Surgical Medical Academy, he was appointed pharmacist and teacher of physics and chemistry at the Dresden Veterinary School in 1852 . In 1867 Sussdorf was appointed professor of chemistry and physics and in 1883 as royal Saxon councilor. In 1870 Sussdorf was given the position of pharmacy auditor for the Dresden and Bautzen districts. In 1886 he resigned from teaching and retired. His successor at the Dresden Veterinary School was the pharmacist Ewald Albert Geissler.

In 1848 Sussdorf became a lecturing member of the Natural Science Society ISIS .

On March 1, 1864, Julius Gottfried Sussdorf was accepted into the Leopoldina as a member ( matriculation no. 2011 ) with the academic surname Gilbert .

In 1877 he was awarded the Knight's Cross First Class of the Saxon Order of Merit on the occasion of his 25th anniversary in service .

The veterinarian Max von Sussdorf was his son.
