Julius Meinl III.

Julius Meinl III. (* February 14, 1903 in Vienna ; † September 10, 1991 there ) was an Austrian entrepreneur.

Julius Meinl attended the Schottengymnasium . In 1933 he took over the family-owned food company Julius Meinl from his father Julius Meinl II and expanded both inside and outside Austria. In 1939 the group already had more than 1,000 branches and franchise companies.

At the beginning of the Second World War he emigrated to England and returned in 1947. 1953 received Julius Meinl III. the Honorary Doctorate of Commercial Science. In 1935 he acquired the competitor Kunz and in 1956 he re-founded the savings and credit association of the friends and employees of Julius Meinl AG . This association was founded by his father in 1923, but was liquidated in 1943 during the Third Reich . After he founded the Brunner & Co. KG bank in 1969 . it was merged with the savings and credit association to form Meinl Bank in 1979 .

He also founded the apprentice academy, at which merchants were trained, whereby style and polished manners were important criteria. Nowadays, the next generation of the Spar group is trained in the building located on Lainzer Strasse in Vienna.

He was married to Johanna "Hansi" Winterstein (May 26, 1906– January 21, 1983), daughter of the art dealer Josef Winterstein. Their son Julius Meinl IV. Had been with the company since 1953.
