Julius Platter

Julius Platter (born December 27, 1844 in Castelrotto , † November 23, 1923 in Zurich ) was a South Tyrolean economist .

Life

Platter was the son of a doctor and completed his studies in Innsbruck , Vienna and Munich . He received his doctorate iuris in Innsbruck in 1873 . He then held an extraordinary professorship for statistics in Chernivtsi , Bukovina Province , which at that time belonged to the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy and is now in western Ukraine . From 1879 to 1884 he held a full professorship at the University of Zurich . From 1882 to 1884 he was dean of the political science faculty at the University of Zurich. In 1884, Platter was appointed professor of economics at the Zurich Polytechnic (now ETH Zurich), where he worked until 1921. Julius Platter is considered a representative of classical economics. His work deals with a. with issues of social policy . One of his main works is the textbook “Grundlehren der Nationalökonomie” (1903), which was often cited, especially during his decades of teaching at the Polytechnic.
