Julius Popp (politician)

Julius Popp (born April 5, 1849 in Bölten , Moravia , † December 8, 1902 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician of the SDAP .

Life

After an apprenticeship as a shoemaker , Popp became involved in the shoemaker's trade union organization from 1874 and in 1889 became chairman of the cooperative health insurance funds in Vienna. From 1886 to 1902 he was a member of the party executive committee of the SDAP. Popp, close colleague and friend of party leader Victor Adler , was chairman of the unification party congress of the SDAP, which decided on the Hainfeld program (December 30, 1888 / January 1, 1889) and became administrator of the Arbeiter-Zeitung and party cashier. Popp also represented the SDAP at the Socialist International . He had been married to the leading women's functionary Adelheid Popp (née Dworak) since 1893 .

The Julius-Popp-Hof in Vienna- Margareten is named after him .
