Julius Roßhirt

Julius K. Roßhirt (born August 4, 1854 in Mannheim ; † October 15, 1908 in Karlsruhe ) was a German hydraulic engineer .

Life

Born as the son of Franz Roßhirt, who later became a member of the Landtag and Reichstag, and his wife Hedwig, b. Bekk, Julius Roßhirt attended the Lyceum in his hometown Mannheim and studied at the Technical University of Karlsruhe and at the University of Heidelberg . In Karlsruhe he became a member of the Corps Alemannia in 1871 . After passing the Baden state examination on November 18, 1880, he worked as an engineering intern in Karlsruhe, Constance and Mannheim. In 1887 he was employed as a second class engineer, appointed first class engineer in 1890 and district engineer in 1895. In 1896 Roßhirt was transferred to the Rhine construction inspection in Freiburg im Breisgau and entrusted with the administration of the local board position. In December 1897 he was appointed Central Inspector at the Directorate of Hydraulic Engineering and Road Construction, conferring the title of hydraulic engineering inspector. In 1907 he was promoted to senior building officer.

Roßhirt took longer study trips to Sweden and the Netherlands. His main works as an engineer included the construction of the new Schwabentor Bridge in Freiburg and the expansion of the Karlsruhe Rhine port . In his time Roßhirt played a major role in regulating the Rhine and was involved in an advisory role in the sewer system of the Main and Neckar. As commissioner for the Grand Duchy of Baden at the technical commission of the Rhine bank states for navigation on the Rhine, he took part in the negotiations on shipping taxes and in international Rhine shipping congresses.
