Julius Rotermund

Julius Rotermund (full name Julius Wilhelm Ludwig Rotermund or Julius Wilhelm Louis Rotermund ; born March 11, 1826 in Hanover , † June 14, 1859 in Salzbrunn in Silesia ) was a German wood carver , painter and history painter .

Life

Julius Rotermund was a student of Eduard Bendemann .

The last and unfinished picture by Rotermund was made in Dresden , later referred to as The Body of Christ Mourned by His Own . The work, paper on linen measuring 2.58 in height by 2.83 in width, was completed posthumously by his teacher Bendemann. The work was signed “Julius Rotermund inv. Et pinx. E. Bendemann dir. et. fin. Dresden 1859 ". The painting, valued at the price of 925 Thalers at the time, was given away in 1861 by the Dresden Art Association to the Dresden Picture Gallery .
