Julius Schnitzler (doctor)

Julius Schnitzler (born July 13, 1865 in Vienna ; † June 29, 1939 there ) was an Austrian doctor and university professor .

Julius Schnitzler was born as the son of the physician Johann Schnitzler . He is the younger brother of the writer Arthur Schnitzler . The brothers had a friendly, but somewhat distant relationship throughout their lives. In 1888 Schnitzler received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Vienna . Like his father, he was also at the General Polyclinic , where he was in charge of the surgical department in 1895 and 1896. He then moved to the Wieden Imperial and Royal Hospital as a primary surgeon .

Schnitzler published extensively, especially on surgical questions. He received his habilitation in 1895 and was appointed associate professor in 1908. He was retired in April 1934. Julius Schnitzler was married to Helene, née Altmann (1871–1941). Their son Hans Schnitzler (1895–1967) was also a surgeon.
