Julius Stieber (* 29. March 1966 in Linz , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian German literature and culture director at the magistrate of Linz.

Live and act

Stieber completed a teaching degree in German and history, which he completed with a doctorate in German. In 1996 he started his career in the cultural department of Upper Austria. In this role he played a key role in founding the SCHÄXPIR youth theater festival and in 2002 became its first managing director and festival director.

In 2010, Stieber succeeded Siegbert Janko as director of culture for the city of Linz, where he heads the culture and education division . Stieber is a member of the supervisory board of the Ars Electronica Center and the Linz event company (LIVA), which also runs the Brucknerhaus . Furthermore, the tower of knowledge and the museums of the city of Linz ( Lentos and Nordico ) fall within his area of ​​responsibility. Stieber is an advisory board member at the Festival of Regions .

For the periods 2013–2018 and 2018–2023, Stieber was appointed to the University Council of the University of Linz .

In his role as cultural director, Stieber played a key role in the fact that Linz was named a UNESCO City of Media Arts in December 2014 .
