features
The species is similar in habit to Jungermannia gracillima . The stems are smaller than an inch. They form yellow-green lawns. The flank leaves are circular. The cells in the middle of the leaf are elongated, about 40 × 60 to 80 micrometers in size. The corners of the cells are not thickened. Lower leaves are rare. There is only one, but large oil body per cell. The perianth is egg-shaped and four to five-sided at the top. The capsule is spherical and reddish brown. Brood bodies are mostly present.
Distribution and locations
The species is distributed sub-oceanic in Europe and North America. In Germany it occurs scattered in northern Germany, and very rarely in the low mountain ranges. It grows on moist, lime-free, sandy-loamy soils.
