Nikola Marinovic (born August 29, 1976 in Belgrade , Yugoslavia ) is a handball goalkeeper from Yugoslavia who has also had Austrian citizenship since 2004 .

Career

Born in Belgrade, he began his active career in 1996 at RK Roter Stern Belgrade . After five years in his hometown, he moved to RK Lovćen Cetinje , where he stayed for a year. In 2002 he left Serbia and went to Austria to SG Handball West Vienna and from there after three years to the top Austrian club A1 Bregenz . In 2004 he was naturalized. In the 2006/07 season Marinovic was voted handball player of the year in Austria.

For the 2009/10 season Marinovic moved to the handball Bundesliga at HBW Balingen-Weilstetten , from there he went to HSG Wetzlar in 2011 . He has been guarding the gate of Frisch Auf Göppingen since the 2013/14 season . In summer 2015 he moved to the Swiss first division club Kadetten Schaffhausen . For the 2018/19 season he moved to GC Amicitia Zurich . In September 2018 he was loaned to the German first division club HSG Wetzlar until the end of 2018.

He is part of the Austrian national team , for which he played 163 games. In 2014 he took part in the European Championship .

His brother Luka Marinovic is also a handball player and is currently under contract with HC Bruck.
