Jurgen Cavens (born August 19, 1978 in Ranst-Broechem ) is a former Belgian national soccer player .

Career

Cavens began his career in his hometown of Ranst with the district club FC Broechem. Until 1995, the tall striker played in the youth of the Royal Sports Club Lierse. In the 1995/96 season he made his debut in the first team where he played until 2001. During his time at Lierse in the 90s, he won a number of titles, the most important being the championship title in 1996/97 as well as the cup victory in 1999 and Supercup victories in 1997 and 1999. From 2008 to 2011 he was again under contract with Lierse SK in the Jupiler League. Before that he played a. a. for Standard Liège , Olympique Marseille in France and for FC Twente Enschede in the Netherlands .

In the 2008/09 season Cavens was second in the EXQI League's top scorer list . With his 22 goals he scored only 4 goals less than Hervé Ndjana Onana from Red Star Waasland .

He then worked for Waasland-Beveren from 2012 to 2013 ; From 2013 to 2014 he played for Royal Cappellen FC and from January 2014 for the provincial club KFCO Beerschoot , where he ended his professional career after six months. Since 2015 he has only played as a hobby in the reserve teams C and D of the Koninklijke Gooreind Voetbalvereniging .

The striker made five appearances for the Belgian national team between 1999 and 2001 and scored one goal for his country.
