The sand silver wedge ( Jurinea cyanoides ), also called cornflower-like Jurinee or sand musk thistle , is a species of the daisy family (Asteraceae). The sand-silver notch is rare and is now protected across Europe by the Habitats Directive . The generic name honors the Swiss doctor and naturalist Louis Jurine (1751–1819).

description

The Sand-Silberscharte is an upright, deciduous, perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 20 to 70 cm. This species forms ground roots up to 2.50 m deep. In the course of vegetative reproduction , underground shoots can grow into new sub-plants of an individual. The foliage leaves , arranged in a basal rosette, are pinnately fissured, with linear tips with entire margins. The upper side of the leaf is first woolly cobweb and later balding and then dark green; the underside of the leaf remains hairy white tomentose.

The long-stemmed cups are usually individually on the stems. They have a diameter of 3 to 5 cm. The bracts are tomentose-gray. Usually the corolla is purple. The flowering period extends from July to September.

The achenes are smooth and weakly pitted.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 30.

Occurrence

The sand-silver wedge is a continental floral element that is widespread from southern and central Russia to western Siberia and further to the Altai and from the Caucasus countries to Turkestan. Disjoint deposits are located in the Elbe and Rhine-Main areas around 500 km from the main closed area.

The Sand-Silberscharte needs some calcareous, loosely humus-rich sandy soil in a warm summer climate. It populates gappy sandy lawns, light pine dry forests and inland dunes. It rarely occurs in sandy areas between the Neckar and Main estuaries, on the middle reaches of the Main, in Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony. Otherwise it is missing in Central Europe.

It is a territorial character of the Jurineo-Koelerietum or an association character of the Koelerion glaucae . Important companion species are: Koeleria glauca , Corynephorus canescens , Euphorbia seguieriana , Artemisia campestris and Medicago minima .

ecology

The silver notch is rooted up to 250 centimeters deep.

Taxonomy
