Jussi Mäkelä (born July 27, 1977 in Oulu ) is a former Finnish biathlete .

Jussi Mäkelä lives and trained in Alavieska . He was active for Alavieskan Viri and started biathlon in 1990. He contested his first international championship as part of the Biathlon Junior World Championships in 1997 in Forni Avoltri and was sixth in the individual.

Towards the end of the 1998/99 season , Mäkelä made his debut in Lake Placid in the Biathlon World Cup . In the sprint he was 45th, with Ville Räikkönen , Paavo Puurunen and Vesa Hietalahti in the relay race ninth. Shortly afterwards he achieved his best results in individual World Cup races as 36th of a sprint and 36th of a pursuit race in Valcartier . Between 2000 and 2003 he did not get any further appearances in the World Cup. In 2003 he returned to the top racing series in biathlon. The highlight of the season was Mäkeläs' participation in the 2003 Biathlon World Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk . The Finn finished 64th in the sprint and 11th in the relay race alongside Timo Antila , Paavo Puurunen and Vesa Hietalahti. The 2003/04 season he ran almost permanently in the World Cup until the 2004 Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof . At the World Cup he finished 73rd in the individual. After that he did not come to any other international assignments.
