Jyrki Nieminen

Jyrki Nieminen (born March 30, 1951 in Salo ) is a former Finnish football player and coach. He played 45 international matches for the Finnish national team .

career

Nieminen started playing football at Salon Vilpas . In 1971 the striker moved to Turku PS . Two years later he returned to Salon Vilpas . In 1976 he moved to HJK Helsinki before joining IFK Eskilstuna in Division 2 in 1978 .

After a year in the Swedish second division, he was brought to the Allsvenskan by the traditional club AIK . Here he was a regular player, but rose at the end of the season with the club in the second division. There, under coach Bo Petersson, the striker was converted into a defender. In this position, too, he was able to assert himself in the regular eleven and returned to the top class after just one season with the club.

After two years in the back of the table, with relegation in the 1982 season only in the relegation against Djurgårdens IF , the club surprised the competition in the 1983 season . With the again used as a striker, Nieminen succeeded in first place in the league, but failed in the championship semi-finals at IFK Göteborg .

In the spring of 1984 Nieminen returned to Finland for professional reasons and appeared for Vantaan Palloon . However, in the summer he was brought back by AIK trainer Rolf Zetterlund , but was only used five times for the Swedes. In 1985 he returned to Finland. His new employer was his former club HJK Helsinki. In 1985 and 1987 he won the Finnish championship title with the club and then ended his career.

In 1989 he took over his first position as a coach. Until 1992 he was in charge of the Finnish women's national team . From 1990 he also took over the Finnish U21 team and in 1991 he was in charge of HJK ​​Helsinki for one season. Until 1997 he stayed with the association as a coach of the youth national team.
