Cheese mill in Bieber

The building at Dietesheimer Strasse 409 in Offenbach am Main is a historic mill that is under monument protection and is known as the cheese mill . Along with the observation tower, it is one of the landmarks of the Offenbach district of Bieber .

building

Located on the northern edge of the Bieber district on the border with Mühlheim am Main , the mill was first recorded on a map of the Steinheim office from around 1560. She is then referred to as Keesmuel . Its first documentary mention is in the Jurisdictionalbuch of the Steinheim office in 1576 as KeßMüll . The first mill was built shortly after 1550. It is very likely that the mill was damaged in the Thirty Years' War , as a miller at the cheese mill was not mentioned again until 1659.

The two-storey mill building that exists today is dated to 1743 on a lintel . A “B” also attached indicates Johannes Ball, who was a miller here from 1728 to 1758. The quarry stone barn was probably also renewed in 1743.

At the beginning of the 19th century, an oil mill was set up in the cheese mill next to the grain mill . Around 1910, the mill was given up and a restaurant was operated in a newly built annex . In the course of renovations since the 1960s, the mill wheel and grinding equipment were removed. The ground floor is massive in breakage and sandstone with sandstone jambs executed. The half-timbered structure on the upper floor is made with man figures .

Current usage

Beer garden at the Käsmühle

A restaurant and beer garden have been operated on the property's site since 1910. Since the cheese mill is located in the forest along the Bieber , it is used as a destination for excursions.

The regional loop city and district Offenbach of the Hessian apple wine and orchard route under the motto restaurants, wine presses and weekly market leads, among other things, to the cheese mill.

The Käsmühle is one of the special features that make the Offenbach district of Bieber what it is.
