Kathe Franke

Käthe Franke (born March 30, 1923 in Krefeld ; † July 4, 2012 in Schiefbahn ) was a German local politician in Willich.

Life

Käthe Franke grew up in Willich, where she also attended elementary and commercial school. After her marriage in 1944, she first moved to her husband in Zwickau . One year after the end of the Second World War , she returned to Willich in 1946.

In 1973 Käthe Franke joined the CDU . In 1975 she became district chairwoman of the CDU women's association , a member of the Willich city council and chairwoman of the cultural committee there. From 1978 until her election as mayor, Käthe Franke was chairwoman of the CDU city association in Willich.

On March 29, 1979, Käthe Franke was elected mayor by the city council to succeed Hans Lamers . After the local elections of September 30, 1979, September 30, 1984 and October 1, 1989 in North Rhine-Westphalia , she was confirmed in office by the city council. She did not run for the local elections on October 16, 1994. Her successor as mayor was her long-time deputy Josef Heyes .

From 1994 onwards, Franke headed the senior citizens' council of the city of Willich, elected for the first time. In 1995 she resigned all honorary positions due to a long illness. Their commitment was primarily aimed at socially disadvantaged people and culture. From the beginning she was a decisive advocate of the annual festival at Neersen Castle since 1984 , the development of which she shaped as the first chairwoman of the festival association.

Awards

On December 15, 1993, she was appointed honorary mayor and honorary citizen by the council of her hometown Willich; the certificate was presented to her on December 9, 1994. For her services to German-British friendship, Käthe Franke was honored by Queen Elisabeth II as an Honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire . In 1981 she took part in the traditional Steuben Parade in New York as a guest of honor . At the suggestion of the Japanese community in Willich, she was awarded the Order of the Holy Treasure (third class) by Consul General Inagawa on June 13, 1995 . On March 27, 2001 she received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon from District Administrator Hans-Christian Vollert . Willich's French twin town awarded her the Great Medal of Merit of the City of Linselles in 2001 .
