Kånna Högar is the largest burial ground in Kronoberg County . It is north of Kånna and south of Ljungby , east of the E4 in Småland in Sweden .

The burial ground consists of 240 burial mounds , 30 building stones , 17 stone settings , two cathedral rings , a roe and a dolmen of the Fröböke type . The grave field dates to the younger Iron Age (400–650 AD). Kånna Högar is similar to the Replösa burial ground east of Ljungby.

description

The largest burial mounds are around 20.0 m in diameter and just over two meters high. About 20 are oval while the other 220 are round. A burial mound has a building stone in the middle and several have curbs. The majority of the stone settings are also round, but there are also two Treuddar . The larger one is about 20 meters long and has high stones at the three ends. The domar rings have a diameter of 12 and 16 meters and consist of four or five stones up to 1.75 meters high. The dolmen of the Fröböke type consist of three bearing stones with the open side facing east. There is a small bowl on the northern bearing stone . A signature from the late 19th century is on one of the building stones. The Roese of about 18.0 m in diameter and one meter in height is probably the oldest of the burial monument.

In 1964 three graves were examined. In one of them there was a skeleton with grave goods. In the mouth was a silver coin that was poorly preserved and could not be dated. The custom of putting a coin in your mouth, known as the Charon coin or obolus, comes from Greek mythology, where the coin had to be paid for to cross the Styx River . In the graves there was a bronze buckle and an iron knife with traces of a wooden shaft.

On a hill on the other side of the road, about 700 m southeast of the burial ground, lies the Storröse Högarör with a height of over 2.0 m and about 30.0 m in diameter. According to a legend, there is a treasure in the hill that is guarded by a dragon.
