Kélétigui Abdourahmane Mariko , also Kélétigui Abdourahamane Mariko (born February 21, 1921 in Zinder , † December 3, 1997 in Niamey ) was a Nigerien author and manager .

Life

Kélétigui Mariko's father belonged to the Bambara ethnic group and was an officer in the colonial troops of France . His mother was a Hausa from Tessaoua . His parents moved from French Sudan to the city of Zinder in Niger, where his father was retired. Kélétigui Mariko was born in Zinder and attended the French school there. At a young age, Mariko worked as a musician. He played various instruments in orchestras in Bamako , Gao and Kita and worked as a song composer. He also directed the orchestra of the Amicale de Niamey . In the 1940s he trained as a veterinarian . During this time he met writers like Fily Dabo Sissoko , who made him want to become a writer too. In the course of his work as a veterinarian in various places in French West Africa , he recorded oral traditions .

In the Republic of Niger, which has been independent since 1960, Mariko took on various management functions in the civil service and in state-owned companies. In the Ministry of Rural Economy he worked in 1962 as a director for cooperation and from 1963 to 1965 as head of the development department. At the same time, he was General Director of the Societé du Riz du Niger and administrator of SOTRAMIL . From 1965 Mariko was director of the Union Nigérienne de Crédit et de Coopérative (UNCC) and Caisse Nationale de Crédit Agricole (CNCA) responsible for the financing of agricultural production . He began a major publication activity in the 1980s, publishing books on development issues , collections of narratives from the Sahel and various other topics. In his last years Mariko was involved in the NGO SOS Sahel International , of which he was president for several years and whose office in the capital Niamey he headed until his death.
