Kita is a city in southwest Mali . The capital of Kita County in the Kayes region is located on the eastern slope of Kita Mountain. At the 2009 census , the city had about 49,000 inhabitants. The town particularly flourished in the 1990s during the heyday of the cotton industry and is now a processing center for cotton and peanuts grown in the surrounding areas .
Kita is located on the Dakar-Niger railway line and is the largest transport hub between Bamako and Kayes . The city is also known for its music and as a Roman Catholic pilgrimage site.
