Cologne Research Center for Media Law
The Cologne Research Center for Media Law was established in 2006 at the Faculty of Economics at the Technical University of Cologne . The director is Rolf Schwartmann .
task
The task is to accompany developments in media law and media practice. It is her aim to discuss urgent practical questions with various representatives of the media.

Cologne Media Symposium of the Cologne Research Center for Media Law
The Cologne Media Symposium of the Research Center for Media Law discusses current issues of media practice in a panel discussion.
The Research Center for Media Law has the first symposium with the Mainz Media Institute and in cooperation with the Media Forum NRW on May 23, 2006 at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences on the subject of How Much Power Can Diversity Endure? organized.
The second symposium on the subject of online activities of public service broadcasting on April 2, 2008 in the state representation of North Rhine-Westphalia in Berlin provided impetus for media regulation.
The third Cologne Media Symposium was on March 30, 2009 under the title Shackles for Diversity? The right of media concentration to be put to the test of the media world, which has been permanently changed by digitization and convergence. In view of the increasing importance of the Internet as a communication and information platform, the establishment of international business models and the changed user behavior, the participants in the panel discussed the question of whether the right to media concentration is still appropriate in the cross-media world.

Education
Studying in the field of media law is possible at the Technical University of Cologne as a major in the diploma course in business law.
In the 2008/2009 winter semester, the first year of the master's degree in “Media Law and Media Management” began studying. In close cooperation with lecturers from media companies (e.g. RTL , Unitymedia , Rheinische Post , Deutsche Welle ), the master’s course provides training for the issues of media practice.
The focus is on public and civil media law, IT and Internet law, and copyright law. Here the training is closely based on the requirements of the FAO for specialist lawyers for copyright and media law and for IT law. In terms of economics, the focus is on the subjects of marketing, personnel and controlling. In addition, there is training in questions of dissemination technology.
Cooperations
Under a cooperation agreement with the Cologne Bar Association is the participants of the master program "Media Law and Economics" (LL.M.) opens the possibility of parallel to study the theoretical skills for the specialist lawyer for copyright and media law and / or the lawyer specializing in information technology law to acquire.
