Achim Berg (born February 25, 1964 ) is a German manager and has been president of the Bitkom industry association since 2017 .

Life

Berg graduated from the Anno-Gymnasium in Siegburg in 1984 . He studied business informatics at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences and graduated in 1989 with a degree in computer science (FH). He then completed the European Potential Management Program at the private ESCP Europe Business School in Berlin .

After completing his studies, Achim Berg worked in sales at Bull AG in Cologne in 1989 . When Dell Germany GmbH Berg was active between 1995 and 1999 in various senior sales positions. From 1999 to 2001, Berg was initially managing director of Fujitsu Computer and, after the merger with Siemens, since spring 2000, chairman of the management board of Fujitsu Siemens Computers GmbH. From 2001 to 2002 Achim Berg held the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Internet company Guideguide AG in Rolandseck .

He then worked for Deutsche Telekom AG for five years as the Board Member for Sales and Service of the T-Com fixed-line network . There he strategically realigned sales and marketing and was instrumental in the rapid growth of the DSL business in the German market.

From 2007 to 2009 Achim Berg was deputy chairman of Germany Safe in the Net eV (DsiN), an association under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of the Interior. Achim Berg was named "Top Manager of the Year 2007" in the IT sector by Computer Reseller News . From January 2008 to August 2010 he was Vice-President of the industry association BITKOM (Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media eV) for the first time. After returning from the United States in 2013, he was re-elected to this role. Achim Berg has been President of Bitkom since June 2017.

From February 2007, Berg was Chairman of the Management Board of Microsoft Deutschland GmbH in Munich- Unterschleißheim and Area Vice President at Microsoft International. From May 2010 to October 2011 he was Corporate Vice President Mobile Communications Business & Marketing at Microsoft Corporation at its corporate headquarters in Redmond ( USA ) and was responsible for the marketing and business development activities for Windows Phone . From November 2011 to March 2013, Berg headed one of Microsoft's six global sales and marketing pillars and in this role was responsible for business with telecommunications companies , hosters and cable providers worldwide .

From the beginning of 2009 to July 2013 he was a member of the University Council of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences and from 2012 to 2013 a member of the Board of Directors of the US wireless industry CTIA .

Achim Berg was CEO of arvato AG and a member of the Bertelsmann SE board from April 2013 to September 2015 and a member of the RTL Group's supervisory board from April 2014 to October 2015 . Berg has been a member of the supervisory board of the Munich printing company Giesecke & Devrient since September 2015 and has been a member of the supervisory board of Allianz Germany since March 2017 .

Berg has been an Operating Partner at the global growth investor General Atlantic since April 2016 , for whom he works from the Munich office. In connection with his work for General Atlantic, Berg is a member of the following supervisory boards or advisory boards ("Board Member" or "Board Observer"): ControlExpert, Flixbus , Nucom Group and powercloud.
