The name Königsstrasse emphasizes the importance of the trade and traffic route. Later it also became strategically important for mail delivery and communication. Numerous manors and post offices were built on Königsstrasse. More than twenty inns provided food and accommodation for travelers. The Königsstrasse has been one of the most important traffic routes in the Swedish Empire in the east-west direction since the 14th century.

tourism

Since the 1980s, the Königsstraße has been introduced as a tourist term for the connection between places of cultural and historical significance in southern Finland. Today's route is based on the route at that time. The sights along the way are excellently signposted.
