Königwerq was a German music band from North Baden .

The group itself described their style of music as “de_pop!”. This term was intended to underline their intention to write and sing authentic German-language texts. They combined this pop poetry with mainstream pop music.

history

Königwerq was founded in early 2003 by Dania König and Mathias Kiefer. Carl-Michael Grabinger, Michael Paucker and Nico Schnepf soon joined. All five are trained musicians who either already have their music college degree or are currently studying at the Mannheim Pop Academy .

Dania König from Linkenheim-Hochstetten played in a school band at her high school in Karlsruhe even before the band was founded. She composes the songs and writes the lyrics herself, especially with Michael Kiefer's support for Königwerq's second album. Their first single, König des Leids , was released in August 2004. It is a German cover version of the Police classic King Of Pain . The title rose to number 1 in the charts of SWR3 , Radio Regenbogen and Bayern 3 and was able to place in the top 100 German airplay charts . The second single Unschlagbar from their debut album also reached first place in the listener charts on Radio Regenbogen and Hit1 and number 2 on SWR3. With this title, the band also took part in the German preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest in March 2005 . The album Königwerq itself was released together with the third song in early summer 2005.

At the end of 2005 Carl-Michael Grabinger, Michael Paucker and Nico Schnepf decided to leave the band to start their own projects. At the beginning of 2006 the remaining members came across Tobias Held and Marius Goldhammer while looking for musicians for the production of the second album. However, the drummer and bassist fitted so well into the band's musical structure that they decided to join the group. The band also hires a keyboard player for their live performances.

The second album It's About Time was released on August 17, 2007. The first single was played on the radio in late November 2006. What if it ties in with the style of the first album. Like its predecessors, it was voted into the SWR3 listener charts and also made it to number 1. What if it was released as a download single on August 10, a week before the corresponding album.

In 2007, small promo CDs for an advertising campaign were released in a limited edition.
