rock basalt

The Kühhübel is a 511  m above sea level. NN high elevation of volcanic origin near Neustadt am Kulm in Bavaria .

The Kühhübel is located between Neustadt am Kulm and Weha near the Rauhen Kulm and the Kleiner Kulm , which are also of volcanic origin. It consists of tertiary basalt rock with a sheath of tuff . It was created due to deep cracks in the earth's crust that formed in connection with the unfolding of the Alps .

The natural shape of the Kühhübel is no longer preserved, as the basalt was mostly mined industrially for road and rail construction purposes. The quarry was opened around 1860. Today it is mostly overgrown by coniferous forest and accessed by several paths.
