The Kürtün Dam ( Turkish Kürtün Barajı ) is a dam on Harşit Çayı in the Gümüşhane Province in northern Turkey . The barrier structure, a 110 m high dam , is located 27 km northwest of Torul . The first plans were made in 1986. Construction began in the mid-1990s. In February 2002 the dam went into operation. Electricity generation started in September 2003.
Upstream of the Kürtün Dam is the Torul Dam , while the small Hanyani Dam is directly below . The dam of the Kürtün Dam consists of a rock fill as a support body with concrete slabs on the water side ( CFRD construction). The flood relief consists of two overflow channels (314 m and 357 m long), each 12 m in diameter.
The hydropower plant has with his two Francis turbines of 40 MW power through an annual standard capacity of 198 GWh of electricity. It is at an altitude of 497 m .
