The Harşit Çayı is a river in the northern Turkish provinces of Gümüşhane and Giresun .
The Harşit Çayı has its origin 30 km east of the provincial capital Gümüşhane in the Eastern Pontic Mountains . The Harşit Çayı initially flows in a westerly direction, past the villages of Kale and Tekke . The trunk road D050 ( European route 97 ) follows the upper reaches of the Harşit Çayı. This flows through Gümüşhane and gradually turns to the northwest. The villages of Hacıemin and Mescitli follow . Below the city of Torul , the Harşit Çayı is dammed by the Torul dam . This is followed by the Kürtün Dam and the Hanyani Dam . The small town of Kürtün follows . The Akköy storage power plant is located 10 km downstream near Günyüzü on the left bank of the river. The Gökçebel Dam ( ⊙ ), located about 10 km southwest of a tributary, is connected to the hydropower plant via a pressure pipe. Another 10 km downstream near the small town of Doğankent is another dam at Harşit Çayı. The Harşit Çayı then turns north and flows into the Black Sea at Tirebolu . The Harşit Çayı has a length of 143 km. Its catchment area covers 3280 km².
