Kōichi Morishita

Kōichi Morishita ( Japanese 森 下 広 一 , Morishita Kōichi ; born September 5, 1967 ) is a former Japanese long-distance runner .

In 1991 the athlete from Tottori Prefecture ran a world best time of the year in the Beppu-athonita marathon with 2:08:53. At the World Athletics Championships in 1991 , he finished tenth in the 10,000 meter run .

The following year, he qualified for the marathon of the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona by winning the Tokyo International Men's Marathon . There he won the silver medal behind Hwang Young-cho (KOR) and in front of Stephan Freilang (GER).

Today Morishita is a trainer for the track and field team of Toyota Motor Kyushu (a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota based in Kyushu ) and looks after the Kenyan half marathon world record holder Samuel Kamau Wanjiru .
