K. Michelle (born March 4, 1982 in Memphis , Tennessee ; full name Kimberly Michelle Pate ) is an American R&B singer.

Career

Kimberly Michelle Pate learned to play guitar and piano in her youth and got singing lessons. Her musical performance also gave her a scholarship to Florida A&M University . After graduating, she signed a record deal with Jive Records in 2008 and shortly afterwards had her first successes with the singles Self Made and Fakin 'It , in which she was supported by Gucci Mane and Missy Elliott , respectively . She also released mix tapes, but no album was released. In 2012 she went to VH1 and appeared on the reality TV show Love & Hip Hop and became known there for her cheeky, direct manner and her casual sayings.

After her discovery at VH1, she switched to the major label Atlantic and prepared her debut album. Rebellious Soul was released in the summer of 2013 and immediately reached number 1 on the R&B charts and number 2 on the official album charts . Two songs from it, VSOP and Can't Raise a Man , also made it into the official single charts . She was named Best New Artist at the Soul Train Awards . Her first major US tour followed. A musical version of their album was also produced for VH1. The broadcaster also gave her her own show called K. Michelle: My Life , which started in 2014. Shortly after the start, the second album Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart? , which came in at number 6 on the US charts.

Two years later, a second season of their own VH1 series and another album by K. Michelle followed in the spring. With More Issues Than Vogue she came to No. 1 on the R&B and No. 2 on the official charts for the second time.
