kk Eastern State Railways
The kk Östliche Staatsbahn ( ÖStB ) was the railway company of the Austrian Empire that was entrusted with the transport of the Crown Lands of Galicia and Lodomeria from 1850 to 1858 . The origin of the ÖStB lies in the Kraków-Upper Silesian Railway (Polish: Kolej Krakowsko-Górnośląska ), for whose construction the Senate of the City of Kraków was granted a privilege on March 1, 1844 .
On May 30, 1850, the Kraków-Upper Silesian Railway was bought by the state and was now known as the Imperial and Royal Eastern State Railway. The Kraków-Upper Silesian Railway continued to operate until December 31, 1851, and from January 1, 1852 it was the state itself.
The branch line opened on March 1, 1856 from Trzebinia via Auschwitz ( Oświęcim ) to Dziedzice ( Dziedzice ) finally established a purely Austrian connection from Krakow to the Kaiser-Ferdinands-Nordbahn .
The routes west of Kraków went to the KFNB on June 26, 1858 . The remaining routes went to the Galician Carl Ludwig Railway (CLB) on April 7, 1858 . The ÖStB had thus been reprivatised.
