K3 Kulturkanal was a private regional television broadcaster for the Vorderpfalz and Rheinhessen in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate with headquarters in Mainz .

history

The broadcast started in 1984 as part of the cable pilot project in Ludwigshafen and the Upper Palatinate as a citizen service . Since 1990 it has also broadcast for Mainz and was called K3 Kulturkanal . Organized as an association, the broadcaster broadcast a predominantly culture-oriented program and saw itself as a counterpoint to the commercial broadcasters. The program should be a demanding and informative program from and for the region. K3 broadcast 3¼ hours of their own program a day and otherwise took over the program from 9Live or its predecessor TM3 . It could be received via the cable network in the Vorderpfalz and Rheinhessen, via satellite (Eutelsat) and the "media library" on the transmitter homepage. On November 16, 2009, the State Center for Media and Communication in Rhineland-Palatinate (LMK) announced that the broadcast license for K3, which ran until May 31, 2010, would not be extended. On June 1, 2010, the channel gutenberg.tv took over the broadcasting license and the broadcasting slot for K3 in the cable network. The distribution of K3 via satellite was already discontinued on January 1, 2010. Although K3 no longer broadcasts an offer, the website with the media library is still in operation. However, it has not been updated since broadcasting was discontinued.

Program times

K3 broadcast daily in the cable network on S17 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. The rest of the time it was broadcast on frequency 9live . K3 could be received around the clock via satellite (Eutelsat Atlantic Bird 2, 8 ° West, transponder F2, 12545 MHz, horizontal, symbol rate 3038, FEC 3/4).
