Company founder Karl Breisig (1924)

In 1924 Karl Breisig founded a motor vehicle company on the site of a stonemason workshop near the banks of the Rhine in Andernach. A partnership then began between what was then Daimler-Benz AG and Karl Breisig Motorfahrzeuge.

In the 1930s and 1940s, the family company developed into a representation of Daimler-Benz AG.

In 1960 the company had over 100 employees. In 1962 a branch was established in Mayen with 50 new jobs. Karl Breisig transferred the business to his son-in-law Franz Jolas in 1963. In 1973 another company was built in Sinzig. The original company name Karl Breisig Motorfahrzeuge was changed to motor vehicle operations Middle Rhine , from which the abbreviation KBM is derived. In the same year a new company was opened in Neuwied. At the end of the 1970s, the company moved to a new building in the industrial area of Neuwied. At that time KBM had 260 employees, 45 of them trainees.

At the beginning of the 1980s, the company in Andernach was rebuilt. The new sales house for new cars extended over two levels and had a size of 1,200 m². In addition, a used car exhibition was created on an area of 2,200 m². By bringing together the entire range of used cars from the KBM companies in Andernach, Mayen, Sinzig and Neuwied, one of the most extensive used car exhibitions on the Middle Rhine was brought to life here. In 1986 the fifth company was opened in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. Two years later, it was recognized for the first time by TÜV Rheinland as the most environmentally conscious company.

In 1992 the company acquired a building in the industrial area of Neuwied, in front of which an exhibition area for used cars - cars, trucks and vans - was created under the name KBM Autopark . KBM employed over 250 people at that time. In 1996 the Neuwied company was awarded the “Star Service” rating. In 1998, in cooperation with MCC smart GmbH, the smart-centers Mittelrhein was opened on the grounds of the Neuwied company. In 1999 KBM took over the Collée car dealership (Mercedes-Benz representative of Daimler Chrysler AG) in Limburg.

In 2000 KBM bought the Buchholz car dealership ( authorized DaimlerChrysler AG workshop ) in Weilburg. In 2001, KBM took over Zech Automobilgesellschaft mbH (Mercedes-Benz authorized workshop) in Westerburg. In 2001 the company in Limburg and in 2009 the truck workshop in Weilburg was rebuilt. In 2005 the former managing director Franz Jolas died at the age of 71. In Neuwied, there was a new building for the complete service reception in 2012. In the following year, the Mercedes-Benz dealership Alzeyer Automobil GmbH was taken over. In 2013 KBM took over the UNIMOG general agency for Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.

Today KBM is one of the largest family businesses in Germany.
