Slovenian runner-up in 2015

The Košarkaški klub Rogaška is a Slovenian basketball club from Rogaška Slatina in Lower Styria . The predecessor club, founded in 1960, was dissolved for financial reasons after participating in the international Korać Cup in 1997, but was re-established as KK Rogaška 98 after just one year . Since 2011, the club has been playing first-class again in Slovenia and in 2015 won the runner-up after losing the final series against KK Tajfun Šentjur .

history

1960 to 1997

The men's team, founded in 1960, played after Slovenia's independence in the first season of 1991/92 in the now top-tier national league and reached fifth place as Rogaška Donat MG , narrowly missing out on the play-offs for the championship. As the main round third of the following season, they lost in the play-offs, which were initially expanded to include a quarter-finals, in the first round against the former runner-up from Postojna . In the following seasons they again missed the play-offs and mostly reached sixth place in the final table. This was enough in 1996 to participate in the European Korać Cup 1996/97 , in which one prevailed in the qualifying round against Keravnos Strovolou from Cyprus . In the following preliminary round, however, they lost all six group games, including against the later semi-finalists Benetton Treviso . The advancement in international competition, however, had attacked the liquidity of the club, whose men's team won only four of 22 games in the national championship and occupied the last place in the table and athletic relegation place. At the end of the season, the team was canceled from the game.

Since 1998

Already one year later the game operations in KK Rogaška 98 were resumed, but also closely related to its predecessor in terms of coat of arms. At first they played mainly in the third Slovenian league with ambitions for promotion to the second division. From 2007 you could finally establish yourself in the second highest division, in which you only narrowly failed twice to return to the first class. After the local glassworks company joined the company as a sponsor, KK Rogaška Crystal made it back to the highest Slovenian league in 2011.

In the 1st SKL the team was able to improve continuously from 2011 and in 2014 reached the championship round of the six best teams for the first time. In sixth place they moved into the play-offs, which were played for the first time again with a quarter-finals and lost in the first round against Helios Suns Domžale . In the following season, a balanced victory record in the championship round was enough for third place. After winning the quarter-finals, Helios Suns was defeated in the semi-finals and moved into the final series for the championship for the first time. Here, the regional rival and fifth in the championship round, KK Tajfun Šentjur, met another surprise team. In the series of the final novices, the competitor from the Savinjska was able to prevail with three wins to one and thus also reached the qualification for the supranational Adriatic Basketball League (ABA League), which KK Rogaška was denied for the time being. In the 2015/16 season, KK Rogaška clearly won the preliminary round of the Slovenian championship with only one defeat, but only reached fifth place in the championship round, among others behind Helios Suns, who had only finished third with five defeats in the preliminary round. In the play-off quarter-finals, the team from Domžale therefore had a home advantage and was able to defeat KK Rogaška and later surprisingly get the championship title.
