geography
The Kafloosquelle lies on the boundary of the community-free area Schöllkrippener Forst southeast of Edelbach at about 327 m above sea level. NHN on the northern slope of the summer mountain (466 m) in the valley of the Edelbach . From the source, the stream that rises there runs through a bed of red sandstone and, after a total of about 200 m from the left, flows into the Edelbach, a tributary of the Kahl . The spring water feeds an old well that is located below the Kafloos spring.
history
In November 2015, the Kafloos spring and 75 m of the stream were renatured as a joint project of the state forest and the state association for bird protection . Due to the persistent drought, however, the discharge of the spring was so low that almost no water flowed in the sandstone bed of the stream. Therefore, the project was only presented to the public at the end of February 2016.
In the time before the renaturation, the spring was contained in clay pipes and the water was led into a concrete collecting shaft. From there a plastic pipe ran to the well system below the source. This spring catchment, built in 1960, used to supply the town of Edelbach with drinking water. However, there was already an older version of the Kafloos spring that supplied the former forester's house.
Flora and fauna
The larvae of the fire salamander and other amphibians live at the Kafloos spring .
