The Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Warte (also only Franz-Josef-Warte , both variants are written on the building itself) is one on the Steinerwegberg (also Kais Oak ) in the Leithagebirge in the municipality of Hof am Leithaberge , next to the border with Burgenland , located observation tower .

history

The Leithagebirge section of the Austrian Tourist Club, established in 1885, built this observation tower at the most beautiful viewpoints of the Leithagebirge, commemorating the 40 years of Emperor Franz Joseph I's reign . The building was officially opened as Kaiser-Franz-Joseph-Warte on August 18, 1889; the foundation stone was laid exactly one year earlier.

Building description (at the time of opening)

The control room is a solid, octagonal, eight meter high stone tower on which a four meter high wooden pavilion rises. In order to obtain shelter inside the tower, the stone staircase was brought up on the outside, and only in the upper part does a wooden staircase lead up inside. The view can be enjoyed completely unhindered , as the control room towers over the forest.
