The Kaiserhaus was a Renaissance building in Hildesheim that was destroyed in the air raid on Hildesheim on March 22, 1945 . Parts of the facade were integrated into a new building completed in 1998 on the Alter Markt , to which the name Kaiserhaus was transferred .

The house, originally called this, was built in 1587 as the first stone house in the town in Langen Hagen (house no. 12) for Caspar Borcholt . The top of the three storeys was built in half-timbered houses .

The facade decoration integrated into the new building includes figures that symbolize the Assyrian-Babylonian, Persian, Greek and Roman empires from the left , a bay window with depictions of the four seasons , as well as 46 medallions with portraits of Roman emperors , from which the name Kaiserhaus derives .

Imperial family between 1890 and 1900

A stone with the year M from the courtyard is located in the wall at Pfaffenstieg . Only a fragment of a portal , which was also on the courtyard side, is preserved, which is stored in the stone cellar of the Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum . This showed a Bacchus above the lintel , flanked by two boys riding on dolphins. The coat of arms of the client's mother, Hilke von der Möhlen , on the facade on the courtyard side has been lost.

The Diana Fountain, which was built around the same time and was finally destroyed in 1945, also belonged to the imperial family .

Today's Kaiserhaus is the seat of the landscape of the former Principality of Hildesheim , the Kaiserhaus Foundation Heinz Geyer and the Hornemann Institute , a center for the preservation of the world cultural heritage.
