Kalaigia
Kalaigia , in Latin Galaegia ( Greek Καλαιγία ), is a place name in the Geographia of Claudius Ptolemaios as one of the places (πόλεις) in the interior of the Germania magna north in the west with 37 ° 30 ′ longitude ( Ptolemaic longitudes ) and 52 ° 20 'latitude or 52 ° 50' latitude is specified. According to Ptolemy, Kalaigia lies between Areletia and Loupfourdon . Because of the age of the source, the existence of the place around 150 AD can be assumed.
So far the place could not be located safely. An interdisciplinary team of researchers led by Andreas Kleineberg, who re-examined the information provided by Ptolemy, is currently using the transformation of the ancient coordinates to locate Kalaigia near today's Riesa on the left side of the Elbe in Saxony . The polis with Herrmann Reichert could have been an ancient place name for the land of the Kaloukones who settled on the Elbe .
