Bogadion
Bogadion ( ancient Greek Βογάδιον ) is a place name that is given in the Geographia of Claudius Ptolemaios as one of the in the interior of Germania more northerly (πόλεις) with 30 ° 15 ′ longitude ( Ptolemaic longitudes ) and 52 ° 00 ′ latitude. According to Ptolemy, Bogadion lies between Teuderion and Streontion . Because of the age of the source, the existence of the place around 150 AD can be assumed.
So far the place could not be located safely. An interdisciplinary research team led by Andreas Kleineberg, who re-examined the information provided by Ptolemy, is currently locating Bogadion near today's Salzkotten in North Rhine-Westphalia after transforming the ancient coordinates ; thus the polis could have been another station on Hellweg - one of the most important east-west routes in Germania magna.
