Kolankoron

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kolankoron , in Latin Colancorum ( Greek  Κολάγκωρον ), is a place name that appears in the Geographia of Claudius Ptolemaios as one of the places (πόλεις) located in the interior of Germania magna north in the west with 39 ° 00 ′ longitude ( Ptolemaic longitudes ) and 53 ° 30 'width is specified. According to Ptolemy, Kolankoron lies between Sousoudata and Lougidounon . Because of the age of the source, the existence of the place around 150 AD can be assumed.

So far the place could not be located safely. An interdisciplinary research team led by Andreas Kleineberg, who re-examined the information provided by Ptolemaios, is currently locating Kolankoron based on the transformation of the ancient coordinates at today's Küstrin (Kostrzyn) in the Polish Lebus voivodeship .

The polis Kolankoron could have been on Hellweg , an important ancient trade route that led from the west of Germania magna to Samland .

In addition, Küstrin is located at the confluence of the Warta and the Oder . Archaeologically, there could be a connection with the Oder-Warthe group or the early Przeworsk culture , an archaeological culture that connects research in general with the early Vandals and Burgundians as well as with the Lugians .
