Location of Aregelia in the Atlas of Ptolemy

Aregelia , also Areletia ; ( Greek  Ἀρελετία ) is a place name that is given in the Geographia of Claudius Ptolemaios as one of the places in the interior of Germania (πόλεις) with 36 ° 30ˈ longitude ( Ptolemaic longitudes ) and 52 ° 20 latitude. According to Ptolemy, Aregelia lies between Mersouion and Kalaigia . Due to the age of the source, the existence of the place around ± 150 AD can be assumed.

So far the place could not be localized more precisely. An interdisciplinary research team led by Andreas Kleineberg, who re-examined the information given by Ptolemy, localized Aregelia in the area of today's Leipzig using the corrected Ptolemaic coordinates .
