Vegetative characteristics

Kalanchoe gracilipes is a perennial , epiphytic , completely bald plant. Her slender, at the base of reclining to ascending shoots are also rounded, coherent and up to 60 centimeters long. At their lower nodes are fibrous roots formed. The green leaves are petiolate. The petiole -round petiole is 0.6 to 2.2 inches long. Their elongated, ovate to ovate-round leaf blades are 1 to 3 inches long and 0.5 to 2 inches wide. Its tip is blunt, the base wedge-shaped. The leaf margin is deeply notched.

Generative characteristics

The inflorescence consists of loose two to six-flowered bouquets. The pendulous flowers are on very slender, 12 to 20 millimeter long flower stalks . The calyx is green, the calyx tube 2 to 3 millimeters long. The egg-shaped to semicircular calyx lobes have a length of 2.5 to 3.5 millimeters and are 3.5 and 4.5 millimeters wide. The urn-shaped corolla is bright red, orange-red, yellow, yellow-green or light pink. The corolla tube is 20 to 25 millimeters long. Their ovate to semicircular, blunt corolla lobes have a length of about 4 millimeters and are 6 millimeters wide. The stamens are attached to the upper part of the corolla tube and do not protrude from the flower. The spherical anthers are black. The rectangular nectar flakes have a length of 1 to 1.6 millimeters and are about 1 millimeter wide. The elongated carpel has a length of 8 to 12 millimeters. The stylus is 18 to 20 millimeters long.

The elongated seeds reach a length of about 1.6 millimeters.

Systematics and distribution

Kalanchoe gracilipes is common in central and eastern Madagascar .

The first description as Kitchingia gracilipes by John Gilbert Baker was published in 1881. Henri Ernest Baillon placed the species in the genus Kalanchoe in 1885 .
