description

Vegetative characteristics

The biennial or perennial Kalanchoe laciniata reaches heights of 40 to 150 centimeters. The usually simple, round, upright, reddish shoots are bare below and slightly tomentose above. The fleshy, green, stalked leaves are glabrous or often slightly downy on the upper parts of the shoot. The 2 to 9 millimeter long petiole is flattened, runny and broadened at the base or half encompassing the stem. The shape of the leaf blade is very variable. It is usually composed or deeply incised, three-part or with three partial leaves also 3- to 5-pinnate or pinnate, but sometimes also with entire margins. The partial leaves are ovate, lanceolate to linear. They are narrowed and pointed at the top. The leaf margin is notched, toothed, roughly sawn to slit. The leaf sections are 2 to 14 inches long and 2.5 to 8 inches wide.

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescences form 40 to 60 centimeters long equestrial or paniculate cymes , which are fine and dense glandular-downy hairy. The upright flowers are sparsely downy-haired and glandular and sit on 1 to 10 millimeter long pedicels . The calyx tube reaches lengths between 0.4 and 1.5 millimeters. Their pointed tips are triangular-lanceolate to oblong ovoid and 2.5 to 5 (rarely 7) millimeters long and 1 to 2.5 millimeters wide. The petals are 1 to 10 long, cream-colored to pale yellow or orange to salmon-pink. The elongated ampoule-shaped corolla-tube is 9 to 11 (rarely up to 15.5) millimeters long and has pointed, elongated to ovate lanceolate tips with an attached tip. The not protruding stamens are attached above the center of the corolla tube.

Systematics and distribution

Kalanchoe laciniata is distributed at altitudes of 450 to 2000 meters in Morocco , in the east, south and southwest of Africa and on the Arabian Peninsula and grows in open bushland, under shrubbery and on the edges of thickets. It was first described as Cotyledon laciniata in 1753 by Carl von Linné . Augustin-Pyrame de Candolle placed the species in the genus Kalanchoe in 1802 .

There are numerous synonyms because the species is very polymorphic .
