description

Vegetative characteristics

Kalanchoe scapigera is a small perennial plant that grows with thick and lignified roots . Their woody, somewhat branched, thick, pedicel-round shoots are wrinkled and 2 to 3 centimeters high. The leaves, which are somewhat rosette at the shoot tips, are sessile or almost sessile. The obovate to almost circular, very thick, reddish to yellow-copper-colored leaf blade is 2.7 to 4 inches long and 1.2 to 2 inches wide. Its tip is blunt to rounded, the base constricted to half-encompassing the stem.

Generative characteristics

The dense inflorescence is equilateral and 3.5 to 5 centimeters long. The inflorescence stalk is up to 35 centimeters long. The upright, rather fleshy, deep yellow flowers are on 2 to 6 millimeters long, stiff peduncles . Your calyx tube is about 0.4 millimeters long. The lanceolate, pointed calyx tips are 1 to 1.5 millimeters long. The square corolla tube is rounded at the base and 8 to 12 millimeters long. Their egg-shaped corolla lobes have an attached tip and are about 3 millimeters long and 1 millimeter wide. The stamens are attached above the center of the corolla tube and do not protrude from the flower. The egg-shaped anthers are about 0.6 millimeters long. The linear, pointed to edged nectar flakes are 2 to 4 millimeters long. The elongated carpel has a length of 5 to 10 millimeters. The stylus is 0.5 to 0.7 millimeters long.

Systematics and distribution

Kalanchoe scapigera is common in Angola in the Namibe Province in dry places on stony soils or between and on rocks at heights of 50 to 60 meters.

The first description by James Britten was published in 1871.
