Calendar constructions
Prehistoric buildings are referred to as calendar buildings , which, by aligning them with the position of the sun on certain days (mostly the solstices), allow a precise calendar determination. Examples of this are the sun temples and probably also the monuments of Stonehenge and some circular moats . However, this assignment is certain for some of the Passage tomb megalithic sites , particularly at Newgrange in Ireland and Maes Howe on Orkney .
