Kalev Kuljus

Kalev Kuljus (born June 18, 1975 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian oboist and obo teacher.

Life

Kalev Kuljus studied in Tallinn, Lyon and Karlsruhe. Since 1990 he has been awarded in several competitions, including a 1st prize in the Prague Spring competition in 2001.

In addition to or before his work as solo oboist in the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester , where he has been working since 2003, he played as a guest solo oboist with the Berlin Philharmonic , the Munich Philharmonic , the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra , the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra . In addition, Kalev Kuljus has performed several times internationally with solo chamber music and as a soloist in the most important oboe concerts with orchestra.

Since 2001 Kalev Kuljus has also worked as a teacher. After teaching in Tallinn (2001–2003) he is invited to master classes in Europe, Asia and South America every year. Since 2010 he has also been teaching as Thomas Indermühle's assistant at the Karlsruhe University of Music .

In 2009 he founded the Ensemble Blumina together with the pianist Elisaveta Blumina and the solo bassoonist of the Staatskapelle Berlin Mathias Baier , whose first CD recording on the MDG label was awarded a classical ECHO in 2014.

In 2017 he was named patron of the project "Instrument of the Year 2017 - The Oboe" by the Schleswig-Holstein State Music Council.
