Kalrath is a district of the municipality of Titz in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

Kalrath was first mentioned in a document in 1284. The place name comes from Calrad . As Calrode or Calrad a ausgerodete will be identified in the forest, so a clearing .

church

The Church of St. Mary of the Assumption was built in the neo-Gothic style. The large landowners Josef and Josepha Lommertzheim donated a lot for the new church and are also immortalized as donors in a church window. In the church there is a Klais organ that is over 100 years old .

economy

The place, which used to be purely agricultural, now has only a few farms that focus on growing grain, beet and vegetables in the fertile Jülich Börde .

Kite festival

The DC Grisu organized an annual kite festival on a field between Ameln and Kalrath, where kites and wind birds were let up. This festival was known nationwide.
