location

The village lies between the four places Boslar (Linnich), Hottorf (Linnich), Müntz (Titz) and Mersch (Jülich) on the Malefinkbach .

history

The place goes back to a manor of the Lords of Hompesch . The farm was first mentioned in 1659 when it was sold to the Order of Malta . It is still unclear whether there was a castle in Hompesch. In 1732, the Hompescher Hof was deleted from the Jülich Land register as a knight's seat . The farm continues to exist as a farm. In 1825 Cornelius von Geier (Geyr) from Cologne is the owner.

Hompesch has been a municipality in the Jülich district since the 19th century . A school existed from 1862 to 1938. In 1869/70 the Lohbusch, a forest area between Hompesch, Boslar and Mersch, was cleared. In 1925 the community had 176 inhabitants. On April 1, 1936, the community of Hompesch was incorporated into the community of Müntz. In 1969 this parish was assigned to the parish of Titz.

Hompesch belongs to the Boslar parish. A chapel was built in Hompesch in 1666 and rebuilt in 1750 and 1948. It is dedicated to the Trinity and Saint Gereon .
