Kaltfront is a post-punk band from Dresden , which existed from 1986 to 1990 and whose members have been performing together again since 2005.

Band history

1986 to 1990

Kaltfront emerged from the punk bands Paranoia and Suizid . The first line-up included J. Blitz Gouthier (ex-Suizid, guitar) and Sonic Jörg (ex-Paranoia, bass). The two were supported by Donald Schönfelder (drums) and Kanne on vocals. The first demo " Zieh dich dich warm an" was recorded in January 1987 at Andeck Baumgärtel under "studio-like conditions" and published on the tape trading market. At the same time, the band received their license to play and was allowed to perform in FDJ clubs . Tom Wittig took over the singing because Kanne was drafted into the NVA . From June 2nd to June 6th 1987 the group performed at the “Workshop Week of the Amateur Dance Formations of the District of Dresden” in Görlitz and was honored there as the “best participating band”. They received 500 marks for this . Around this time, Kaltfront also got to know Lutz Schramm from the radio program “ Parocktikum ”, who presented various recordings of the group in his program on DT 64 . In February 1988, the Holiday appeared in No Man's Land tape. It was recorded in the rehearsal room of the metal band STM ("St. Metal"). In 1989 the tape followed 5 men in the city , again with Kanne singing. Towards the end of the year, drummer Tom Tall and singer Kanne went west. The Kaltfront mini-tape was released with guest musicians in early 1990 . The group played their farewell show that same year as the opening act for Die Toten Hosen .

Reunion 2005

In 2005 the band got together again on the occasion of a gig by the band Bottles, who released a CD with cold front cover versions . Since Donald Schönfelder, the original drummer, no longer had any contact with the members of the group, a new drummer, Micha, was accepted into the band. As in 1988, Tom Wittig took over the singing. The official reunion concert then took place in the Kurländer Palais. The group also began writing new pieces which were posted on their Myspace page. The group released a live LP and CD and a compilation LP (CD re-release via Teenage Rebel Records ) on the Rundling label . Kaltfront don't see themselves as an Ostalgie band, but try to appear as a current band. In 2008 Kaltfront took part in the play Medea based on Heiner Müller , directed by Manja von Wildenhain . At the end of 2011 a new album was released with Zwischen allen Fronten . After a few personal changes, the LP / CD "when it gets dark" followed in 2017.
