The Alendorf calvary is a 523 meter high calvary in the nature reserve Lampertstal and Alendorfer Kalktriften with Fuhrbach and Mackental near Alendorf , a place in the municipality of Blankenheim in the Euskirchen district .
history
Count Salentin Ernst von Manderscheid-Blankenheim (* 1630) realized the idea of an ancestor whom the Alendorfer landscape and the Kelberg (originally called) should have reminded of those in Jerusalem. Between 1663 and 1680 Salentin first had seven stations of the cross and a chapel built on the mountain according to the older tradition. Seven more stations were added in the 19th century. The chapel at the site of today's cross no longer exists. The stations, some of which were heavily weathered, were restored with the support of the NRW Foundation .
view
From the top of the Kalvarienberg there is a broad view over the Eifel . The Hohe Acht and the Nürburg, 23 kilometers away, can be seen. You can also see the surrounding communities such as Ripsdorf . The Alendorfer Kalvarienberg is one of the so-called Eifel views recognized by the North Eifel Nature Park .
Pilgrimage
During Holy Week processions take place from the Gothic church of St. Agatha (1494) to the Alendorfer Kalvarienberg. The ascent from the village is a good one kilometer. On the way, the pilgrims pass stations of the cross, which trace the suffering of Jesus Christ. There are more crosses around the summit. The crosses are made of red sandstone. There are fourteen stations in total.
vegetation
The hill is covered with limestone grassland , which is kept free by regularly grazing sheep. Juniper bushes grow a few meters apart . They shape the image of the Alendorfer Kalvarienberg from afar.
